Excellent Automotive Sustainability meetings in Europe

B Cubed Consulting had the opportunity to attend and present at some automotive product stewardship meetings as well as see old friends and meet new ones! First up was iPoint's OEM Customer day with reviews of the EU circular economy, full material reporting in the complex durables good industry, as well as Life Cycle Assessments & Process Efficiency. Second, the CLEPA (EU automotive suppliers) Materials Regulation Event with over 200 folks in attendance with discussions on:

  • IMDS Data System future developments and Chemistry Manager functionality

  • Latest on REACH and the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL) and Enforcement of Substances of Very High Concern

  • EU Biocidal Product regulation and updates on the US Toxic Substance Control Act

  • B Cubed presented the changes for the 2017 Conflict Minerals Reporting Template found at www.conflictfreesourcing.org

Last but not least, was the yearly face-to-face meeting between the automakers IMDS Steering Committee and suppliers (through global regional industry groups) planning the next continuous improvement measures for IMDS. The cooperation in this group demonstrates best practices of connecting the global supply chain to OEMs.

There is certainly a lot going on in the complex durable goods world with regard to chemicals contained in products. Companies from Samsung to General Motors are all seeking more transparency in their supply chain, assurances that sustainable materials are used and obtained with safe employee practices.
